Long Valley Recreation and Travel Basketball Overview
Long Valley Basketball offers a variety of programs to suit players of all ages and skill levels, from learning the basics to competing in high-level games. Programs emphasize skill development, teamwork, and a love for the game, ensuring opportunities for all players to grow and enjoy basketball in a supportive environment. The Long Valley Basketball Association hopes to build the fundamentals for the next group of varsity basketball players.
The Basketball Clinic is designed for 1st and 2nd graders to learn fundamental skills like dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense in a fun, instructional setting. Team concepts are introduced through group drills and controlled scrimmages. Sessions are held once a week on Saturdays, fostering a love for the game.
The Recreation Program is open to boys and girls in grades 3 through high school. Teams for grades 3-8 are divided based on enrollment, with one weekday practice and Saturday games. For high school students, games are held on Sundays at West Morris Central High School, providing a fun and competitive environment.
The Travel Program features boys and girls in grades 3-8 competing in the highly competitive Jersey Basketball League, the largest youth basketball league in New Jersey. Tryouts are held in October, and practices begin in November. While player development is the main focus, the program aims to prepare athletes for varsity-level competition by the time they finish middle school. Each grade level (4th-8th) will have one boys’ and one girls’ team, with selection based on open tryouts.
